McDaniel Takes SBDC Post in Uvalde Area

Justin McDaniel

If your business in the Uvalde area is ready to start up, expand or revamp its operations, a visit with Justin McDaniel, the new business coordinator for the Small Business Development Center, ought to be at the top of your “to-do” list.

McDaniel, a transplanted Mississippian with baggage load of business savvy, is set up to help guide entrepreneurial and business success in the SBDC offices at Uvalde’s Rio Grande College campus. He replaces Maria Martinez, who has moved to Carrizo Springs as part of SBDC’s recent staff expansion in its nine-county Middle Rio Grande territory.  In addition to McDaniels and Martinez, SBDC provides three business consultants at RGC/Eagle Pass and adds another
staffer, Oscar Sierra, later this month to man its RGC/Del Rio office.

McDaniel assumed his post in late September and will provide services in Uvalde, Real and Edwards counties.  Martinez will be available to advise businesses in Dimmit, Zavala and LaSalle counties. Sierra covers Val Verde and Kinney counties, while the remaining staffers concentrate on new and existing businesses in Maverick County, where SBDC has its largest registry.

Last year, by supporting startup and established enterprises, SBDC is estimated to have boosted the regional economy by some $40 million in payrolls, sales and the roll-over of dollars.  It tallied the creation of nearly 400 new jobs and the retention of more than 200 employees.

SBDC provides services ranging from the development of business plans and locating sources of financing, to devising marketing strategies and offering training in everything from food handling to accounting programs.
