Faculty Salary Issue Resolution
Whereas during fiscal year 2006 Rio Grande College faculty salaries were 7.3% below the average of Texas State University four year schools; and
Whereas during the Fall 2006 convocation Dr. David Cockrum and Dr. Vic Morgan presented a proposal to ameliorate this deficiency by increasing the designated tuition during Fall 2007 semester by $5 per semester credit hour; and
Whereas Dr. David Cockrum and Dr. Vic Morgan assured the faculty that the proposed increase in designated tuition would allow for a 5% salary increase in addition to "normal" merit raises for fiscal year 2007 for all faculty; and
Whereas this proposed designated tuition increase was presented to the student body for approval as a means of maintaining quality faculty at Rio Grande College and the student body approved such an increase; and
Whereas the designated tuition increase was implemented during the Fall 2007 semester; and
Whereas the 5% salary increase in addition to "normal" merit raises for fiscal year 2007 for all faculty was not implemented; therefore
Be it resolved that the Rio Grande College Faculty Senate requests the administration take the following steps to ensure the delivery of promised salary increases to keep RGC faculty salaries competitive with faculty salaries in the Texas State University System:
- Continue to raise designated tuition fees until sufficient funds have been raised to close the gap on faculty salaries between sister Texas State University systems and Rio Grande College.
- Redistribute salaries from faculty whose programs have been eliminated.
