
About the Dean
Frank W. Abbott joined Sul Ross State University as dean in 1985. He received his undergraduate training in history and political science at the University of Texas in Austin where he graduated in 1965. Following three years as a public school teacher, Abbott entered graduate study at Texas Tech University, where he earned a master of arts degree in 1969 and his Ph.D. in 1972.
Following a year on the faculty at Texas Tech, Abbott served for four years as chair of the division of social science and business administration at New Mexico Military Institute. In 1977, Abbott became chair of Social Sciences at the University of Houston Downtown College.
While at Sul Ross Rio Grande College, Abbott has served as a member of the Commissioner's Advisory Commission on Teacher Education for the Coordinating Board; as president of the Uvalde Chamber of Commerce; and as president of the Uvalde Rotary Club. He also had worked in regional activities including service of the Mayor's Economic Development Task Force and the Middle Rio Grande Development Council's Quality Workforce Board.
A specialist in American diplomatic history, Abbott has published articles on internationalism and world affairs. He is the author or co-author of four books and numerous reviews.
