
The criminal justice degree program is designed to meet the needs of students pursuing a career in one of several areas of the criminal justice system. The curriculum provides students with both the opportunity and assistance to acquire the knowledge necessary to understand the roles of policing, courts, corrections, juvenile justice and laws as they contribute to social order.
It further provides a theoretical foundation of the discipline and offers a thorough understanding of contemporary scientific methods as applied to criminal justice.

Career Opportunities
The program leads to a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice which will qualify graduates for employment in many public service professions. Positions of employment currently exist for educated men and women as criminal justice practitioners at the federal, state and local levels of government and with many private sector agencies.
Course Credit Transfers
Students are advised that criminal justice courses transferred from a two-year institution to SRSU-Rio Grande College cannot be accredited toward the 21 upper-level credit hour requirements for criminal justice or university requirements for total upper-level credit hours.
Minors in Criminal Justice
Students wishing to minor in Criminal Justice must take a minimum of 9 semester credit hours at SRSU-Rio Grande College. Eighteen credit hours are required for the criminal justice minor. Students should consult with a SRSU-RGC criminal justice faculty member.
