Types of social influences and the various methods used to study them. Topics include: social cognition, conformity, obedience, persuasion and propaganda, attribution, aggression, prejudice, liking, loving, and helping. (PSY 2319)
3302 Human Development Across the Life Span (3-0) A study of the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social factors which constitute the growth and development of normal children and adults from birth through old age. (PSY 2314)
3304 Introduction to Learning Psychology (3-0) Introduction to theories of learning, memory, and recall. Emphasis on the roles of purposes (motivation), values, emotions, and changes across the life span for human learning.
3308 Introduction to Applied Psychology (3-0) An introduction to the work of professionals in the field of Psychology, including teaching, research, consulting, industrial psychology, mental health administration, and psychotherapy and counseling in both private and institutional settings. Utilizes extensive field observation. (PSY 2302)
3310 Survey of Alcoholism/Drug Problems (3-0) Historical and current definitions of alcohol and drug use and abuse. Sociocultural aspects of chemical dependency, including vulnerable populations, such as women, seniors, and youth. Identification of symptoms; progression of the illness; overview of impact on individuals, family systems, and others.
3312 Human Sexuality (3-0) Fundamentals of human sexuality including biological, behavioral and cultural aspects of sexuality.
4301 Psychology of Personality (3-0) An introduction to personality theory, important personality theorists and the significant factors in the development of personality across the life span.
4302 Personnel and Industrial Psychology (3-0) Basic psychological principles of personnel work in business and industry. Significance and evaluation of individual differences, motivation, morale, and employer-employee relations.
4303 Abnormal Psychology (3-0) Analysis of the concepts of normal and abnormal in various cultural settings. Introduction to the concepts of neurosis, psychosis, organic disorders, alcohol and drug abuse. Includes descriptions, possible causes, and treatment modes.
4308 Theory and Principles of Psychological Testing (3-0) Introduction to psychological measurement. Test construction, validity, reliability, standardization, and statistical treatment of test results. Various accepted tests will be examined.
4309 Advanced Social Psychology Seminar (3-0) Phenomenological and experimental basis of social psychology. Methods and ethics of scientific research in social psychology. Seminar participants will design and conduct field research.
4310 Special Topics (3-0) Selected topics in psychology which are of particular interests to students of psychology. The course may be repeated for different topics.
4311 Chemical Dependency Counseling (3-0) Counseling methods for effective intervention and treatment of harmful alcohol of drug use. Attention given to individual differences in diagnosis, treatment, and potential for relapse. Enhancement of counseling skills, ethical issues, and occupational success in the field will be addressed.
4313 Forensic Psychology (3-0) An introduction to the work of professionals in the field of forensic psychology. Recommended for criminal justice majors.
4315 Gerontology (3-0) A survey of the issues relating to aging including family dynamics, retirement adjustments, legislation, mental health and physical health.
4320 Alcohol/Drug Counseling: Theory and Practice (3-0) Diagnosis, including use of interview and DSM IV-R. Overview of interviewing and counseling theories unique to the alcohol/drug dependent person and family. Discussion of special treatment needs of alcohol/drug dependent persons, families, and adult children of alcoholics. The use of support systems such as 12-step programs for adjustment to sobriety. Professional ethics, case management and record keeping.
4325 Cognitive Science (3-0) Introduction to the interdisciplinary field of cognitive science, including the five disciplines of which it is composed, especially cognitive psychology and the "cognitive revolution" in psychology. Addresses such questions as: What is mind? What is thinking? Memory? Learning? Perception? Identity?
