Academic Support Services provides students with the tools and resources they need to achieve academic success and to remove all obstacles to learning, including advising, tutoring and workshops.
Student Advising
Student advisors located at each of the three sites provide help with transitioning from other institutions, schedule planning, and deciding on a major. The student advisors are able to provide students with unofficial degree checklists that aid students in planning schedules which meet graduation requirements. Advisors accept student inquiries by appointment, over the phone or as walk-ins. Students must see their respective faculty advisors for final approval of schedules and official degree plans.
Recruiting
Academic Support Services serves as the recruiting department for Sul Ross State University Rio Grande College. Advisors perform a series of duties aimed at recruiting students including participation in Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, community career fairs and college days.
Tutoring
Tutors are available at each of the three sites during the fall, spring and summer semesters. These tutors offer assistance in mathematics, English, history and PowerPoint presentations. Tutors schedules are posted on bulletin boards around campus as well as online. Tutors are available by appointment or on a walk-in basis.
Community Involvement
Academic Support Services is involved in community activities each year in an effort to make RGC a household name in our area. Current community activities include Border Patrol Mixers, City and County Job Fairs, area school district college days, SWTJC college and career days, AEIOU parade, Oktoberfest, Día del Ni'o and many other community outreach activities.
